Suicide Prevention & Awareness Mini-Series | 2025

September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, and GBS hosted a two-part mini-series focused on hope, connection, and practical tools for supporting mental health. The goal was to learn how to have open conversations that can save lives, reduce stigma, and strengthen protective factors for ourselves and others.

Whether you’re looking to better understand the scope of the issue, learn safe ways to talk about suicide, or find resources to support yourself and loved ones, these sessions will provide guidance, compassion, and a pathway toward healing and prevention.

You can find the recordings below.

Talk Saves Lives

Presented by W. Brandon Callor, MSW, CSW, CPM Board President, American Foundation for Suicide Prevention

Open and honest conversations about suicide can save lives. By breaking down myths and stigma, we reduce the guilt and fear that prevent people from seeking help. This session will explore the scope of suicide, safe ways to talk about it, key risk and protective factors, and the resources available to support individuals and communities.

Caring for our mental health and wellbeing.

Presented by Alyssa Mitchell, MPA, CHES
Suicide Prevention Coordinator, Office of Substance Use and Mental Health Utah Department of Health and Human Services

Just as we care for our physical health, it’s vital to nurture our mental and emotional wellbeing. This session will highlight protective factors for suicide prevention, practical coping strategies, supportive connections, safe environments, and key resources to turn to for healing and ongoing support.
